I have three children, one of which is much older (13 this year) and last year he came down from his bedroom in tears saying that he wanted to kill himself and he was literally beside himself. I found out that he had been posting content on YouTube and was getting trolled by people online. He has autism and spends half of his time at my home with my wife and two young children, and half the time with his Mum. As I have an IT background, I have blocked all the nasty sites across the board such as pornography etc, but I was unable to protect him on this occasion, and on top of this I felt bad as I knew there must be more that I could do to protect him going forwards, if not at the very least when he is using the internet in his (my) home. On top of this, I cannot control what happens when he leaves my house, as I know at his Mums, he has full unrestricted access to everything which is a totally different challenge to navigate altogether!

Understanding the Difference Between WiFi and the Internet

It's common to hear the terms "WiFi" and "Internet" used interchangeably, but they refer to different technologies and serve distinct purposes.

WiFi is a technology that allows devices to connect wirelessly to a local network. It uses radio waves to transmit data over short distances, typically within a home, office, or public space. When you connect your smartphone, laptop, or tablet to a WiFi network, you're linking it to a local router that manages the wireless connections, in our case, this would be your Netoro home router.

The Internet, on the other hand, is a vast global network of interconnected computers and servers. It enables the exchange of information and data across the world. When you access a website, send an email, or stream a video, you're using the Internet to retrieve and transmit data from servers located anywhere on the planet.

To put it simply, WiFi is a way to connect to the Internet, but it is not the Internet itself. You can think of WiFi as the door that allows your devices to enter the library of information that is the Internet. Without an Internet connection, your WiFi network can still connect devices locally, but it won't provide access to the vast resources available online.
